Golfing Society win relegation thriller

With the Golfing Society still not sure if their efforts over the preceding three matches had been enough to avoid relegation, a win was vital to ensure their first division status for another year.

With Gibbo confined to barracks, the battle scarred Leprachaun (18) stepped up to partner Miss Taken (19) and together they got the Golfing Society off to a winning start by pulling a pin.

With Wibbly and Wobbly unfit to play, Crabbers (17) was promoted back into the first team, and along with the yet again top scoring Capt. (31) they lost just two pins to give the Alley Cat Strays a slender advantage of one pin.

However, the Golfing Society were not to be denied, and the Accountant (27) and Ned (20) saw a resurgent Golfing Society home by seven pins, for a well deserved final victory of the season.

Next match will be in the Bill Blakemore Cup, date to be notified in due course.

Golfing Society draw against White Hart A gains vital point

With the relegation issue still undecided, the Golfing Society needed at least a point from this match to ease their relegation fears.

The White Hart A went into an early 4 pin lead against Gibbo (27) and Miss Understanding (15), but the Leprachaun (16) and the Capt. (29) pulled eleven pins to swing the match back in the Golfing Society's favour.

With the comfort of a seven pin lead, the Accountant (17) and Ned (27) should have been home and dry, but the curse of the ducks struck again, leaving the White Hart A only 3 pins from victory with their final 3 balls. However, they ccould only manage 2 pins off the final ball of the match, and an honourable draw was the result.

Next weeks final match of the season takes place on Monday evening at the rugby club against the Alley Cat Strays where the Golfing Society will learn if they are safe from relegation.

Roaring Twenties silenced by Golfing Society

Having beaten the league leaders in their last match, the Golfing Society were hoping that their good form would continue against the Roaring Twenties. In the bright and airey skittle alley at the Wheatsheaf, the match soon got underway after waking the sticker up from his slumbers at the business end of the alley. The top scoring Leprachaun (42) and Miss Timed (19) got the evening under way by only losing one pin against their more experienced opponents. With six ducks sitting the match out, Mr Wibbly (35) fresh from a short Portugese holiday, and the Capt (27) pulled the match round by pulling nine pins to give the anchor pair a rare breathing space to consolidate the win. The Accountant (30) cashed in with some steady scoring, and with Ned (40) in blinding form, the match was soon in the bag with the Golfing Society cruising home by nineteen pins. With relegation still a distinct possibility, the Golfing Society must maintain this form in the final two matches of the season, starting with the White Hart A next Thursday at home. Capt. Pinder

Golfing Society do double over Ship-a-Hoys!

The Golfing Society went into this game against the league leaders with nothing to lose and all to gain. Having not won since the 24th February, the Golfing Society were not expecting an easy time against the Ship-a-Hoys, although they had beaten them in the away tie earlier in the season. The match did not start well for the Golfing Society with Gibbo (17) and the Leprachaun (24) losing seventeen pins to Thorne and Thorne. However, the Accountant (17) and Crabbers (27) set the Golfing Socity back on track by pulling eleven pins against Thorne and Johnson. The Golfing Society were now only six pins adrift, and an unlikely victory was sealed with Ned (33) and the Capt.(25) seeing the Golfing Society cruise to victory against Gazard and Thorne by 15 pins, and grab a vital 2 points in their relegation battle. Next weeks match is against the 2nd placed Roaring Twenties on Wednesday at the Wheatsheaf. Capt. Pinder

Odds and Ends push Golfing Society into relegation trouble.

In this rearranged matchup, the Skittle alley was still being assembled when the Golfing Society arrived, and with the pool table waiting, the match finally began. Gibbo (22) and Miss Print (22) equalled one another's scores but were unable to match their opponents losing nine pins. The Leprachaun (24) and the Accountant (30) were next to suffer by losing a further three pins to leave the Golfing Society trailing by 12. Ned (25) and the Capt (30) were unable to stem the tide and lost a further 7 pins to consign the Golfing Society to yet another defeat. With four games left and still to play the number one and number two teams in the league, the Golfing Society need to win their final two games of the season to ensure 1st Division survival for another season. Wot-U-Wots punish poor Golfing Society

The story of this season has been the number of ducks "scored", and despite only having four ducks to their opponents three, it was enough to lose a tight match by only seven pins. With the Accountant (20) anxious to start his drive down to Devon, and Gibbo (33) leaving his glasses in his haste to vacate the Plough skittle alley, the Golfing Society were given a slender lead of just two pins. The Leprachaun (24) and Miss Demeanour (17) battled to keep the lead intact, but lost the lead shortly before the handover to the anchor pairing. Ned (25) and the Capt (28) started slowly and were unable to keep up with their opponents and yet another match was lost. Capt. Pinder
