Breaking Cup News - 3rd Round Draw

The Golfing Society have been drawn at home against the Crickets, in the 3rd of the All In Cup.

Match to be played by December 28th. Watch out for confirmation of when this match will be played.

This 3rd round encounter will hopefully give the Golfing Society a chance of quick revenge, following their league defeat earlier in the season, when an abject display by the Golfing Society left their high flying opponents with an easy win.

Golfing Society slip past Alley Cat Strays

In a nail biting finish, the Golfing Society won an epic All In Cup tie by the narrow margin of just 3 pins.

Taylor (38) and Gibbs (30) got the Golfing Society off to a good start against Cove and Dean, giving the middle pair a 2 pin advantage.

Crabtree (36) and Tinney (39) were not daunted by their more experienced opponents of Isaacs and Kinnear, and managed to leave the teams all square at the end of their six ups.

The Golfing Society's anchor pair of Pearce (37) and Pinder (35) did not let the home side down, and despite a valiant effort by Markey and Webb, the match went down to the wire to leave the Alley Cat Strays rueing their luck once again.

Next week league action returns with an away match on Thursday at the Wheatsheaf against the Thursday Thirsties.

Golfing Society skittle out Stone CC

Stone CC came to Thornbury Rugby Club bent on revenge for last years two defeats at the hands of the Golfing Society. However the Golfing Society handed out a 31 pin defeat to send them back to Stone with their pride once more dented and bruised.

Taylor (36) and Tinney (21) opened up a lead of 30 pins after the opening leg, for the fledgling partnership of Tinney (30) and Bowker (20) to consolidate by only losing four pins.

The final pairing of Pearce (34) and Pinder (29) pulled a further 5 pins to seal a comprehensive victory over last years Premier League champions.

Next match unless otherwise advised will be against the Thursday Thirsties on Thursday 29th November at the Wheatsheaf.

Golfing Society Bowled Over by Crickets

An early start to the evening caused problems for the Golfing Society, who had only four players in attendance at the start of the match.

Looking for inspiration, Taylor and Tinney struggled to make headway against the Crickets openers, and were unable to manufacture any sort of a lead drawing with 41 pins against Fowler and Sage.

Bowker returned from the wilderness with Capt. Pinder, but both quickly lost 15 pins against the spin of the Crickets middle order. A quick fire 5 from Bowker saw him return to the sidelines with his reputation for low scoring very much intact.

The final pairing of the "bearded wonder", and fast right-hander Pearce were no match for the stylish bowling of Browning and Gulwell, and another 21 pins were grabbed by the home side.

A miserable evening for the Golfing Society, who must now regroup before next weeks home match with Stone CC.

Gamblers trumped by Golfing Society

In an exciting mid-table encounter, the Golfing Society held all the aces to win by 23 pins.

The opening pair of Taylor (33) and Tinney (18) forged ahead, but were pegged back by their dogged opponents to lead by one pin at the end of their six ups.

The middle pair of Crabtree (20) and Gibbs (21) lost one pin, and with both teams even on 92, left the anchor pair of Pearce (41) and Pinder (35) to seal the victory.

Next match versus The Crickets at the Plough next Wednesday 8.00pm start.
